Although the weather here has been interesting enough, there's just nothing like the ocean blowing from the west rather than the east. New York is great, though. It's different from anywhere else I've lived, and for that I'm grateful. So many cities are dead these days. I have a "short list" of the ones that truly feel alive. Chicago, Saint Paul, New Orleans, Austin, New York, Baltimore... I could go on. However, I have a stack of essays to grade and a red pen that needs exercise. Oh, commas! Are you there for poetic reasons or ignorance? Does it really matter? I suppose it does. Mahler shall keep me company while I slash and slice at these *ahem* tomes of fine literature. IC Name: Farley Thibaud Age/DOB: August 14, 1976 Gender: M Sexuality: gay, but single and not really looking. Physical Description: thin, wiry, kind of weird looking. He's short - only about 5'5", and a little spastic at times. He likes wearing T-shirts under his blazer - especially ones with interesting graphics or sayings on them. Personality: Farley is cheerful and optimistic most of the time. He's energetic and easily excited about things within his field of study. For the most part, he stays to himself, but does like to go out for a beer after work, and spends a lot of time writing in his little moleskin notebook out on the grounds of the commune. History (Please write at least four/five paragraphs here. You're starting this character from scratch this is the place to flesh him/her out): Farley was born in Atlanta, Georgia. His father was from Louisiana, and his mother from Atlanta. Shortly after he was born, they all moved to Chicago when his father was laid off from Wang Electronics and got a new job at Motorola. He spent most of his time in a northern suburb of Chicago, and when he graduated from high school, he earned a scholarship to Columbia University in Chicago. While working on his BA in Literature, he did a one-year study-abroad program at Cambridge University in England. It was truly the most eye-opening experience he'd ever had. Not only did he get to experience a new country, culture, and immerse himself in literature, he had his first true relationship with a senior at the same college there. When he had come back and finish up, Farley promised to write, email, call, and planned to apply to grad school at Cambridge so he could be with his lover. However, while he was accepted to grad school his lover had moved on. More than that, he'd gotten married, had one child, and apparently had sworn off men entirely. Farley threw himself into his work and stopped "looking." After earning his MA, he applied for the job of teacher at Goldfinch Academy in Missouri. He's taught there for two years now. Farley still has not "come out" to his parents. Student/Faculty (please list position eg. What: Eclipses and classes Where: Teacher's Lounge When: Feb. 20, 2008 - late afternoon Status: incomplete "Wasted and wounded, it ain't what the moon did~" Farley was in a good mood today. More than good. He was apractically bouncing around his classroom, reading to them poetry about the moon, talking about the Lunar eclipse every chance he got. Not only would this be a full lunar eclipse, lasting for over an hour, but it was a clear night in the northern hemisphere, the weather wasn't too frigid cold, he had received his permission to camp out on the roof of the school to watch the eclipse, and on top of all that, there was the chance of a blood red moon, as well. He went into the teacher's lounge and plopped himself down on the sofa. Reaching into his satchel, he pulled out his bottle of Dr. Pepper and stared out at the window. "Only a few more hours. Feels like a Science Fiction or Horror novel. Strange things happening on a lunar eclipse." This late in the afternoon, he wasn't really surprised to see that the teacher's lounge wasn't very crowded. Most of the faculty who had families had already gone home for the night, and of those who were left, most seemed to be frantically trying to get their grading done so they could go off and do so-called "exciting" things. No doubt watching American Idol or some other prime-time rot would qualify. Well, not really. To be honest, it seemed most of his comrades were pretty smart and not terribly interested in things like reality TV - or as he called it "unreality" or "alternate reality." Farley pulled out his battered old ibook laptop and started playing Tom Waits on itunes as he opened the grading program. Sure, he had a stack of papers to grade, but he also had plenty of quiz results to input, and (as per usual) he wanted to get the easy stuff out of the way first.
